This cat is "Clarissa," an original, one-of-a-kind acrylic painting on birchwood panel. She is a good and virtuous cat. When she was very young, however, she got involved with a tomcatting
boyfriend. She was in despair when she learned how rotten he was, and she was so distressed she stopped eating and refused visitors. But then, she realized that no matter how badly he’d treated her, she deserved to be happy. So she called up her old friends. They reminded her that she was a great friend and a sweet cat, and now they enjoy a girls’ night out every week!
Fans of 18th century English literature may recognize the loose resemblance to Clarissa Howe from Samuel Richardson's novel "Clarissa," perhaps the longest novel in English. This Clarissa gets the happy ending that our heroine never got!
"Clarissa" was painted using hand-mixed acrylic color on an 11 x 14 x 1.75 gessoed birchwood panel, and is painted on all sides for a special decorative touch. Her tail even drapes over the edge. The wood was gessoed by hand. The paint is made by applying multiple layers of paint over the course of several days.
Your purchase includes a card with Clarissa's story and a certificate of authenticity. It's ready to frame, dated, hand-signed and stamped with a unique design to verify that it's an original. The painting arrives boxed with reused and recyclable wrapping. Shipping for all originals is free within the US and $10 for international shipments.
